Obituary for Thelma C. "Sally" Giles
Thelma C. "Sally" Giles, 98, of Freedom, NY went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
She was born August 23, 1924 in Colden, NY a daughter of the late Alfred and Lena (Kleinschmidt) Major. She was a current member of the Central Baptist Church in Yorkshire. She was a past member of the Faith Baptist Church in Winter Haven, FL as well as the Bliss Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess. She enjoyed worship prayers and enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and feeding people and the birds.
She was a housewife and a retiree of Motorola in Arcade where she had worked for 18 years. She was also the past owner of the Busy Bee in Arcade (1957) and past owner of Nelson's Diner in Bliss (1964).
Thelma is survived by her sons: Philip Zimmer of Freedom and James L. Nelson of Angola; her step-daughter, Sandra (Joseph) Kushner of Henrietta; also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, step-children, step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands: Lawrence G. Nelson who passed away January 3, 1980, Robert L. Galster who passed away July 12, 2002 and Louis Giles who passed away October 22, 2009; her daughter, Penny Gonzalez; her siblings: Maurice Major and Winifred Rothenberg.
Friends may call on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St. Arcade. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11am at the Central Baptist Church in Yorkshire, NY with Pastor Ben Phillips officiating. Interment will be held in Lyonsburg Cemetery in Bliss.
