Obituary for Rowena C. McAdoo

Rowena McAdoo of Clarence and formerly of Arcade, NY passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the age of 88.

Rowena was born in Erie, PA and grew up with her mother, Flora and brothers, Bob and Martin in Ripley, NY.

She met Dick, her future husband, in 2nd grade and they became high school sweethearts. Both became educators and raised their family in Cohocton and Arcade, NY. She taught in the Pioneer Central School district (Arcade Elementary) for many years. She was an active member of the Arcade United Methodist Church and later the Akron First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ at home, sewing clothes for herself, her children and her grandchildren and baking cakes, pies and cookies. She and Dick enjoyed dancing, both ballroom and square dancing.

With family spread all over the country, she and Dick were active travelers all their lives. Throughout their marriage, they visited all 50 states, much of Canada and also Australia and New Zealand. They became full-time RVers for many years after selling their home in Arcade which allowed them to visit family as well as new friends. They split their time between Newstead, NY and Florida for several years. They thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years, making new friends, exploring new activities, and providing community service wherever they went. Rowena and Dick lived in Clarence prior to moving to The Greenfields Continuing Care Community in Lancaster, NY.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard "Dick" McAdoo who she married on June 29, 1957 in Fredonia, NY; her children: Cheryl Haskins of Tully, Mark (Kristy) McAdoo of Golden CO, Barbara (Don) Stucke of East Aurora; her daughter-in-law, Barbara McAdoo of Irondequoit. Her 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren spread her love across the country: Lauren Cockerham (Steve, [Jack and David]), Lindsay McAdoo and Leah Stucke in New York, Alex McAdoo (Dani, [Lucas]) in Texas, Thomas Haskins (Katie) in New Hampshire, Elizabeth Haskins (Nichole, [Leith and Rowen]) in Kansas, Ryan McAdoo (Lisa, [Daniela and Theo]) in Ohio, Phoebe Stucke in Washington, DC, and Tanner and Theron McAdoo in Colorado. Sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews extend even further to Arizona, Florida, Idaho and Ohio.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers and her son, John who passed away in 2010.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11am at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade with Pastor Alberto Lanzot officiating. Interment will be held in the Villenova Cemetery in South Dayton, NY at a later date.
