Obituary for Richard D. Tilton

Richard D. Tilton of Arcade, NY passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at his residence at the age of 82.

He was born February 17, 1940 in Buffalo, NY a son of the late Clyde "Leslie" Tilton and Evelyn Ruth (Davis) Jones. He spent most of his life in Yorkshire and Arcade. He graduated in 1960 from Arcade Central School. He also obtained two A.A. degrees from Genesee Community College in Human Resources and Business Administration.

He was founder and charter President of the Pioneer Jaycees in 1971 and also state Jaycee Chaplin in 1976. He worked as a Developmental Aide for the WNY Developmental Center in West Seneca for 20 years and had worked previously as a Prudential Insurance Agent for the greater Arcade area for 15 years. He was also the executive Vice President of the Civil Service Employees Association Union Local 221 for 3 years out of West Seneca.

In 1972 he began Canter for Cancer along with Dr. and Mildred Diesfield. He continued this for 43 years. He also served as President of the Wyoming County Unit of the American Cancer Scoiety and also on the state division board where he served on several committees.

His passion was researching his ancestry and traveling. He had traveled all 50 states and several foreign countries.

He is survived by his children: Kimberly (Stephen) Hinz of Chaffee and Kevin (Pamela) Tilton of Franklinville; his siblings: Robert Tilton of Olean, Lois (Stanley) Cwiklinski, III of Chaffee, and Virginia (late David) Smith of Salamanca; his grandchildren: Stephen Bence, Angela Bence, Samantha Hinz and Dustin (Kelly) Hinz; also survived by several nieces and nephews and a recently found second family of nine brothers and sisters.

He is predeceased by his parents.

Friends may call on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 2pm-4pm, and 6pm-8pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St. Arcade. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 12pm at the Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church, 303 Rt. 39, Arcade with Pastor Jeff Hokenson officiating.
