Obituary for Josephine A. Harrington

Josephine “Jo” Harrington, cherished mother, grandmother, great & great-great grammie

Josephine “Jo” Harrington of Arcade and formerly of Strykersville passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2023, at the age of 97.

Born Josephine A. Caccamise on January 9th, 1926, she was the daughter of Frank and Aimee Caccamise of Farnham, NY.

Jo has always loved cooking and baking for her loved ones, making homemade gifts and crafts and genuinely making those around her happy. She always liked her hair curled just so, her fingernails polished light pink, with her pearls, wrist watch and purse always kept close by. Throughout her entire life she was a devoted woman of God and loved fiercely. Jo had a heart of gold and will always be remembered for being gracious, gentle, kind and humble.

Jo was a resident of the Arcade Manor for fifteen years, to which she referred to as her “palace.” She was the best euchre player and always looked forward to her card nights with the girls.

To know Jo was to love her. There are truly no words to describe what a wonderful person she was.

Jo was beautiful inside and out. Instead of saying goodbye she always said “God Bless You,” and she meant it. She loved her kids more than anything, along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren – and they are all better people because of her love.

Beloved mother of the late Norman Harrington Jr., Kathleen Harrington, the late Sharon Fugle, Susan Collins (Gary), Barbara Metzger (Gary), Robert Harrington (Tami), Colleen Santasiero (Dan), Patrick Harrington (Donna). Cherished Gram of Joanne Ely (Jeff), Katey Harrington, the late Michael Harrington, Jesse Schmidt (Stacy), John Schmidt (Kellie), Jason Harrington (Iliana), Adam Harrington (Christie), Amy Lukasik (Jason), Lisa Freeman (Cody), Dawson Gallagher (Makayla) and Megan Gallagher. Great Grammie of Jaclyn (Holden), Justin, Natalie, Nathan, Levi, Elizabeth, Alivia, Claira, Reese, Elena “JoJo” Josephine, Knox, Lily, Paisley, Noah and Cooper. Great-Great Grandma to Brecken Clay. Jo always cherished and loved Patrick, Matthew, Beth, Jack and Neil Harrington.

She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and close family friends.

In addition to her late children and late grandson, Jo was predeceased by her companion Donald Matteson, Brother Donald Richardson, Brother Horace Caccamise and Sister Sally Pignatora.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24th, 3-6 p.m., with wake service from 6-7 p.m., at W.S. Davis Funeral Home on Main Street in Arcade. Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish on Main Street in Arcade. A burial is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 13th at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Farnham, NY.
