Obituary for DeVere E. Bliss
DeVere E. Bliss of Freedom, NY passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw at the age of 83.
He was born July 10, 1938 in Houghton, NY a son of the late Robert and Martha (McCall) Bliss. He was a 1957 graduate of Arcade Central and attended the Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church in Arcade. He was a member of the Freedom Planning Board for 20+ years and was a race car driver. He was also the caretaker of the Sandusky Cemetery and enjoyed bowling, racing and spending time with his family.
He was a Dairy Farmer and owned and operated FayeDe Farms in Freedom.
His wife, Faye (Webster) Bliss whom he married on August 31, 1958 in Sandusky, passed away on February 5, 2005.
He is survived by his children: Robert (Ronalda) Bliss of Bliss, Nancy (Dave) Makowski of Arcade, Mark (Dawn) Bliss of Arcade, Steve (Patty) Bliss of Arcade, Paul (Denise) Bliss of Clarence, NY, and Vern (Tracy) Bliss of Arcade; his siblings: Beulah (late Richard) Gasper of Delevan, Betty (late Edward) Doedema of Yorkshire, and Janice (Bruce) Crozier of Texas; his brother-in-law, Don Newland of Freedom; also survived by 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his infant son, Justin Bliss and his sister, Marie Newland.
Friends may call Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 2pm-8pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St. Arcade. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 11am at the Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church, 303 Rt. 39, Arcade with Rev. Jeff Hokenson officiating. Final interment will be held in Sandusky Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Sandusky Cemetery Association, 1111 Eagle St., Arcade, NY 14009.
