Obituary for Darrell K. "Chub" Haggerty

Darrell K. "Chub" Haggerty of Freedom, NY went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 31, 2022. He was 85 years young.

He was born May 28, 1937 in Warsaw, NY a son of the late Leon and Lucille (Nichols) Haggerty. He was raised on a dairy farm and continued farming into his adult life. He owned and operated Dar-Ann Farms in Freedom, alongside his wife, Anna. He had also worked at Blue Seal in Arcade until retirement. After retirement, he continued to help other local farmers for many years.

As a boy, he was a member of 4-H and as an adult, became the leader of the Curriers Crew 4-H Club where he won many trophies. He was the past President of the Cattaraugus County Holstein Friesian Association and was a member of the Arcade First Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and bowled for various leagues in both Arcade and Franklinville. He also enjoyed doing puzzles and spending time with his family. He attended many athletic events to support his children and grandchildren.

Chub enjoyed music and played the alto saxophone during his high school years and in the community band. He also sang in many church choirs and was a member of the Crusaders for Christ singing group that travelled and performed throughout Western New York. He was also a member of many Barber Shop Quartet groups. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anna (Bennett) Haggerty whom he married on June 21, 1958 in Sandusky, NY; his children: Connee Haggerty of Fillmore, Bonita Haggerty of Snyder, NY, Donald Haggerty of Freedom and James Haggerty of Freedom; his six grandchildren: Krista (Steve) Kanner of Arcade, Lisa (Carmen) Morse of Florida, Jessie Haggerty of Williamsville, Haley (Luke) Ford of Palmyra, Owen Moss of Kenmore and Matthew Haggerty of Freedom; his sister, Rita (late Francis) Lefort of Strykersville; also survived by six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Keith Haggerty, Kermit (Shirley) Haggerty, Isabelle (Kenneth) Weitz, Marilyn (Roy) Bishoff and Calvin "Tap" (Nancy) Haggerty.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 4-8pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11am with Rev. Wayne Aarum officiating. Interment will be held in Curriers Cemetery.
