Obituary for Betty J. Bitterman

Betty Jennie (Bigham) Bitterman passed away on July 16, 2022 at the age of 87.

She was born on September 19, 1934, in Freedom, NY, the fifth daughter of the late Ray and Ellamae (Pingrey) Bigham. She graduated from Delevan-Machias School in 1952.

Betty worked at Motorola for 14 years, where she met her first husband, the late Gerald Walrod, whom she married in 1955 and with whom she had two sons, Bradley A. Walrod of Kenoza Lake, NY, and Bruce W. Walrod of Memphis, TN. She later married the love of her life, Alfred W. Bitterman, on July 9, 1966; they lived in Elma and retired in Arcade.

She and Al enjoyed traveling to visit her sons at various times in New York City, Colorado, and Memphis, as well as to South Dakota and to the Amish Country. They also enjoyed camping at Timber Lake and Woodstream with family, as well as attending Odosagih Bible Conference and spending time with her Elton Baptist Church family.

Betty is survived by her two sons; stepson Harold (Jim) Bitterman and wife Debra; granddaughters Michele Bitterman and Jamie Shrock; great-grandchildren Sarah and Matthew Shrock; siblings Mabel (Ray) Williams, Howard (Noelle) Bigham, and Raymond (Kathy) Bigham; along with several cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her parents, spouse Alfred, siblings Doris Vanderwerf, Helen McVay, Edna (Nedopak) Cornell, and Harold Bigham.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, from two to four and six to eight p.m. at W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main Street, Arcade, NY. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 11a.m. at Elton Baptist Church, with the interment immediately afterward at Delevan Cemetery.
