Obituary for Arletta L. Slocum

Arletta L. Slocum of Venice, Florida, formerly of Arcade passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the age of 84.

She was born January 18, 1938 in Buffalo, NY the daughter of the late Wilbur and Edna (Huber) Smith. On July 14, 1956 in Farmersville, NY she married her husband of 60 years, Keith Slocum who passed away May 19, 2017.

Arletta worked as a secretary for Charles Newman, the Arcade Pennysaver and the Arcade Chamber of Commerce. She worked with her husband at Knight Agency and together with her husband and son Kenneth, they owned and operated the Butternut Inn in Chaffee.

She was a past member of the Arcade United Church of Christ and a past director of the WNY Restaurant Association. After her retirement and move to Florida, she stayed active in her community by volunteering at the Historic Spanish Point, the Venice Art Center and the Venice Historical Society. She was an active member of the Venice United Church of Christ and Ladies of the Venice Shrine, where she served on many committees and held many positions.

Arletta loved to cook and entertain. She always had a smile on her face and was a gracious hostess. She had several prize-winning recipes published in cooking magazines, of which she was very proud. She also loved to draw and paint and her family and friends will miss her annual painted Christmas card.

She was a loving mother and is survived by her children Denise (Daniel) Reisdorf of Arcade, Mark (Sharon) Slocum of Venice, FL and Eric (Joanne) Slocum of Arcade; Cherished grandmother of: Adam (Erin) Reisdorf of Blasdell, NY, Kyle (Mayra) Reisdorf of El Paso, TX, Laura (Kevin) Howk of Parma, OH, Jacob (Michelle Rimlinger) Slocum of Huntington Beach, CA, Megan Slocum of New York, NY, Taylor (Amber Stevens) Slocum of Dayton, OH, and Ryan and Matthew Slocum of Arcade; precious great-grandmother to: Henry Reisdorf, Madelynn Reisdorf, Kaydence Howk, Theodore Reisdorf, Joanna Reisdorf and Ella Howk. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David (Donna) Slocum, sisters-in-law Lucille (late Richard) Taylor and Beverly Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Arletta was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth and brother, Robert D. Smith.

Friends may call Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 11AM-1PM at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main Street, where a Funeral Service will follow at 1PM.
