Obituary for Allen J. Hedges
Allen J. Hedges of Delevan, NY passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at his residence at the age of 88.
He was born May 20, 1933 in Hamburg, NY a son of the late Alexander and Alta (King) Hedges.
He was a truck driver for Gernatt Asphalt Products in Sandusky and had also spent time working as a machine shop supervisor for Peerless-Winsmith, Inc. in Springville. He enjoyed gardening, participating in pumpkin and sauerkraut contests and playing bingo and euchre. He also loved making Christmas fruit cakes and fudge for his family, whom he loved spending time with. Additionally, he was a member of the Tollesboro Christian Church in Tollesboro, KY. He was also a decorated Korean War Veteran where he served with the special forces of the 82nd Airborne Division.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne (Ahrens) Hedges, whom he married July 3, 1954 in Hamburg; his children: Donna (Squeek) Tingue of Tollesboro, KY, Becky (Bob Deptula) Hedges of Delevan, Randy Hedges of Delevan, and Laurie Gerstenslager of Delevan;also survived by nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Jean (Fred) Davis, George (Jeanette) Hedges, Donald (Marge) Hedges, Richard (Ruth) Hedges, Mary (Woody) Moore, and Dale (Donna) Hedges.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
